My not so great decision
So I had a little mishap a couple of weeks ago.
I found myself on the losing end of an immersion blender (yuck!) and needed to go to the emergency room for stitches.
And if you’ve ever been to the emergency room, you know that takes hours!
What I also had planned that week were 4 IV infusions, that take 3 hours each plus “recovery” time, for my migraines.
So when the emergency room visit got piled on top of all those pre-planned hospital hours, I felt massively overwhelmed.
I remember saying to myself “well, this week is effed”. Meaning, there was no way I was getting anything done, outside the necessities, for my business.
I had decided ahead of time that I was giving up. That I wasn't going to even try.
If you approach your week with the mindset that the week is already ruined, then you will make decisions that support that thought.
Once I was on to myself, I made a different choice.
Since I’m not trying to be all “hustle culture'' and pretend I should be able to do everything per the plan, I decided a compromise was in order. Instead of giving up ahead of time, I decided to just adopt the mindset of is there anything I can do right now?
This way if I really felt spent, I could honor that.
It also meant that there were likely moments when I knew I could do a little something and I wanted to be looking for those opportunities.
Have you ever found yourself giving up on the day because of one setback? Or giving up on the week because of a busy schedule? If so, let me invite you to rethink your plan.
You might be surprised where you can still do a little something. And something ALWAYS trumps nothing!
