How to Stop Gaining and Losing Weight Over and Over Again

If you keep gaining and losing weight by dieting attempts, you don’t have a good plan.

If you’re like most women, once you finally decide to lose weight, you decide to “get serious”. No more desserts, you start snacking on carrot sticks, and you generally feel hungry throughout the day. Ummm, no thanks!

This is a crummy plan! This plan may yield great success in the short-term, but it will typically be followed by weight gain...and often times more than you started with...in the long-term.

You need to check your head and settle in for the long(er) haul if you want lasting change. Start by making choices that meet you where you are and have you making small changes for the better. Every day.

I like to call making small improvements an eating continuum. What most of us do is try to go from Big Macs to grilled chicken salads, overnight. You may ultimately get to grilled chicken salads (if you want), but to do so typically requires a gradual change of both your taste buds and your brain.

So what does making improvements along a continuum look like? You start with exactly what you are eating now and you make tiny improvements as you go.

Big Mac and large fries becomes a….

Quarter Pounder and small fries becomes a….

Higher quality hamburger place and baked potato becomes a….

Homemade burger with baked/roasted potato becomes a….

Homemade burger with side salad or veggies.

The important thing is to make the changes doable AND consistent. If you’re having a tough day and it feels too hard to improve, don’t! The key is to not give up and backslide. Lasting change happens with the tiny improvements you’re willing to make every single day!
