Inbox Zero and Loving Your Body
I have this client who is working on “Inbox Zero.” Every week she is unsubscribing to things she no longer needs and clearing out close to 500 emails!
As someone who sits here with <cough> 5,606 emails, I was inspired. I decided I wanted to do the same. At first, I started dutifully going through my most recent emails, but that was going too slow for me. It felt like there were too many emails that I needed to still think about or take action on.
So I immediately went to email 5606, thinking all these old ones would be much easier to deal with.
Wrong!
What I found - because I couldn’t help myself from reading through some of them - were that many of them were from the years of my divorce.
Remembering back, I had some friends tell me that I had “changed” or I wasn’t myself during this time period and I remember arguing. Thinking I was the same as always.
But reading back through these emails made me realize they were right!
The tone sounded wrong. The words were more bitter. The laughs were self-deprecating and didn’t feel like joy.
All of my actions and results in life during that time period were a direct reflection of what was going on in my brain. And I was hurt. I felt cheated and lied to. So no wonder what came out to the rest of the world was bitterness and negativity….that’s what I was thinking and feeling!
Our life is always a result of the thoughts and feelings we are having right now. (And no, I don’t mean, bad shit isn’t happening to you or isn’t real. But how you respond is up to you).
So it’s totally normal that you might not even be able to imagine eating drama-free. Or loving your body. Or losing weight without misery and deprivation.
Your brain hasn’t figured out how to do that yet! It has only developed the tools that have you where you are.
But that doesn’t mean that it isn’t possible!
I’ve done it. My clients have done it. And we aren’t any different than you. We aren’t made of any sterner stuff.
